Reception
Welcome to Reception!
Our class names are Oak and Ash.
We are a happy class who enjoy coming to school. Reception is all about learning through play. Our classroom is set up into different areas for example, the writing area, role play, maths corner. In these areas we learn important skills about how to be a good friend and to share and communicate with others. We also practice our writing, counting and learn about things in the world.
Everyday we have a phonics lesson where we are taught our letter sounds and learn how to read, we have literacy which is linked to the book we are reading. We usually spend 2 weeks looking at a book and basing our work around this. We also have a daily maths lesson where we learn all the skills we need to know.
Each term we have a different topic and a newsletter is sent out explaining what we will be doing in class and how parents can help their child (a copy of this letter can also be found in the News and Letters section on the website). Parents are invited into class each term to work with their child and we encourage parents to come into class to talk with the early years staff about any concerns they might have.
